Security Issues and Scripts

I imagine by now you know there are a select few on the Internet that want to mess up your computer - even if for a harmless prank. Since you bought my Multitorials you obviously trust that I am not one of the pranksters. AND YOU ARE RIGHT. All I want to do is teach you.

There are some actions in the Multitorials that work on scripts:

  • Calculators
  • Slide Show Presentations
  • Announcements Scripts inserted from our web site
  • Scripts are wonderful and useful so to get teh full benefit of the Multitorial, you will need to activate them...

Things To Look For To Save Time

If you see this under your tool bar at the top of your browser window:
    Some information is being blocked.

So do this: Right click this line:

    and select "Allow Blocked Content"
    A warning window will appear:

Select "Yes" -- I assure you nothing bad will happen to your computer.

Not only do I have no interest in making something bad happen to your computer - or peeking at your computer or hidding some pop-ups, adware or spyware... I wouldn't know where to start to do such things.

Perform all of these tasks on this page and text will appear here--->
It should say in bolded letters: "Scripts are running!" and if you are on line you will get an announcement from the web site with a link to the latest news or offer. Depending on the custom security settings in Internet Explorer, you may have to do this every time you visit a page with scripts.

If you are interested in fixing this, the solution will reside in your Internet Explorer security settings. With your browser

open go to: "Tools" menu then down to "Internet Options". A small window will open that has tabs at the top.

Select "Security" then select the button:

"Custom Level" a new window will open.

Scroll down to a section called: "Scripting" and either select "enable" or "prompt" on all of the bullets in this section; if you select prompt you will be pleagued by prompts every time you want to calculate.

Sctipts aren't notoriously dangerous, but they can be used by mischevious programmers to change settings etcetera on your computer. This can only happen if you are installing lots of - mostly in the "free download" internet sites - downloads or if you open strange attachments. If you do either of these two things, change your settings back or choose the prompt setting. I personally keep them in the enable mode for my computer since I only open attachments that are clean and I don't do free downloads from non certified locations.

Thanks for bearing with any hassles the new security features in Internet Explorer may cause. If you need help email me.

    Sincerely Grateful,
    Rusty Cline
