Larry Youdelman is the epitome of the word: gentleman, because he is a gentle man; a kind person and an all around great guy to work for. I had a lot of fun working for Larry and we both came away happy.
When I first finished, I installed one 35 watt low voltage light to illuminate the pond. Larry called me that evening and said I needed to look at the pond. I went over and saw that the lighting was too dim… now remember my motto: "The customer is always right!" I thought I was finished and it was a bit disheartening at first. So without charge I brought over another the following day and installed it. That night the phone rang, it was Larry again saying now that the pond was too, bright. I went back to his house in the evening - above and beyond the motto - he was right.
At this point I took a deep breath and said, okay I will do some research. I went to a local irrigation sales company that handles low voltages lighting and picked up some brochures. I found low voltage submersible lights. I bought one and took it over that evening. We decided that we should dispense with the upper lights and install the submersibles. I was excited about the look I knew I would acquire, but the extra work of hiding the wiring was a bit daunting… but the customer is always right! Larry never dickered with me on the price of his pond, so I never back charged him for any of the extra labor: It took a full day to install the lights.
As you can see from the pictures, the submersibles did the trick. Larry's pond looks like a polished gem at night when the lights come on and when the pump is running you can hear the natural soothing sound of water falling all through his home.
The moral to this rather long embellishment is this: By making him right with no argument, I was forced to find a solution. Now I am excited about doing another pond and incorporating the submersibles in the original plan, I can envision a great many uses and places these little gems could be hidden in the falls and the retention basin.
Thank you, Larry!
